How to transfer backup between platforms

What is Backup File?

The Backup File contains all your entries, moods, activities, and settings. You can export or import it back to Daylio. Use this file to manually backup Daylio data anywhere you like or transfer your data from Android to iOS and back.

Backup File vs manual or automatic cloud backups

Backup File needs to be exported manually via Advanced Options. You cannot use your regular or automatic backup file to transfer data to another platform.

We still strongly advise using automatic cloud backups in addition to using the Backup File. Automatic backups are done after every entry and your data will be always safe.

How to transfer Backup File?

There are many ways to do it and many apps you can use. We will describe the most basic ways to transfer your data.
Before you start, make sure Daylio is updated to the latest version on both phones. You might need to open Google Play or App Store and manually update the app.

Android Export

1
Open Daylio > Tap More > Backup & Restore

2
If you’re prompted to choose account press back to close the dialog. (This is an account for Google Drive backups which we are not using now.)
3
Scroll to the bottom of the screen and tap Advanced Options.
4
Tap the “Export” button.
5
Choose Gmail or any other email client.  If you don’t see a prompt with an option to choose an email client and some other app is automatically opened instead you might need to “Clear Defaults” for that app. Learn more here...
6
Compose an email. Daylio Backup is added as an attachment. Send the email to the email address that is accessible from your new phone.

Android Import

For security reasons, we recommend doing export every time before importing backup. This is just in case your import file might be different than you expect.

1

Open the email with the Daylio Backup and tap the attachment ".daylio"

2

Open the attachment with Daylio app. If you cannot see the Daylio app, you might need to save the file to your phone and use the "Import" button in app.

3
You will see a confirmation window. Approve the import by tapping "Replace"

iOS Export

1

Open Daylio > More > Backup & Restore

2
Tap Advanced Options

3
Tap the “Export” button

4
Pick Mail or your preferred email client. We always recommend using email before trying cloud storage transfer.

5

Compose an email. Daylio Backup File is added as an attachment. Send the email to the email address that is accessible from your new phone.

iOS Import
